The Radiant Light of the Morning Sun
As the first light of dawn breaks over the stone walls of our cloister, our hearts are summoned once more to the eternal rhythm of divine praise. Saint Clare understood what so many in our frantic, modern age forget: that human dignity and lasting peace are found not in accumulating the fragile shadows of this passing world, but in becoming a transparent mirror for the hidden glory of Jesus Christ. From her humble sanctuary at San Damiano, she gazed unceasingly upon the Crucified King, allowing His burning charity to transform her entire inner life.
The Mirror of Eternity
How deeply needed is this ancient monastic wisdom in our present day! We live in a culture consumed by noise, perpetually seeking validation in fleeting images, digital echoes, and earthly anxieties. Yet Saint Clare reminds us that true nobility lies in radical quietude and an unyielding gaze upon the Most Holy Eucharist.

When the Saracens threatened to destroy her monastery and her sisters, Saint Clare did not rely on earthly armor or worldly cleverness. Instead, though stricken with illness, she caused the Blessed Sacrament to be placed at the threshold of the monastery. Prostrating herself before the Divine Presence, she placed her total, childlike trust in the Lord of Hosts. Before the majesty of Christ present in the sacred Host, the enemy fled in terror. Her defense was her devotion; her shield was the Eucharistic Lord.
Embracing the Freedom of Holy Poverty
To walk the narrow path of the Gospel is to embrace what Clare called the 'Privilege of Poverty'—not a mere absence of material goods, but a holy detachment of the spirit that holds nothing back from the Divine Majesty. When we strip away our self-reliance, our inflated pride, and our desperate desire to control our own destinies, we finally clear space for the overflowing fullness of Divine Grace.
As you take up the duties and trials of this Tuesday, carry the quiet stillness of the sanctuary within your breast. Let your heart become a interior San Damiano—a secluded haven where Christ is unceasingly adored, trusted, and loved above all fleeting, created things.

Lord God, heavenly King, who didst adorn the holy virgin Saint Clare with a magnificent love for evangelical poverty and the Most Blessed Sacrament: grant us, we beseech Thee, through her powerful intercession, the grace to fix our eyes steadfastly upon Christ Thy Son. May our daily lives be transformed into radiant mirrors of His mercy, so that amid the passing shadows of this earthly pilgrimage, we may ever cleave to the eternal light of Thy heavenly kingdom. Through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen.
